Along with protein and fat, carbohydrates make up the three primary sources of energy for the body. Thus, a healthy level of carbohydrate in the daily diet is essential for one’s well-being. Although a healthy amount of carbohydrates in the diet is essential, certain individuals may prefer to reduce their carbohydrate intake by restricting their diet to a list of low carbohydrate foods.Various reasons including weight control, obesity treatments and even diabetes may contribute to this decision.

Choosing an individual’s diet from a list of low carbohydrate foods offers numerous health benefits. Aiding any weight loss activities by reducing one’s daily calorie intake would probably be the most obvious one.Furthermore one ensures oneself a constant supply of proteins and vitamins when one chooses his/her diet from a list of low carbohydrate foods since many of these foods are amplsourceses of both proteins and vitamins. Therefore, it is particularly the recommended diet for individuals who suffer from health problems such as heart disease.

Certain groups of foods including high protein, vegetable, fats and fruits are featured in a list of low carbohydrate foods. Chicken,beef and ham for the meats, fish including trout, salmon, and shrimp, nuts, for instance walnuts and macademia, cheese and eggs fill the high protein section of the list of low carbohydrate foods. Although meat is considered healthy under this category, processed or canned meats are not recommended. In addition, the consumption of nuts such as peanuts and buckwheat is also discouraged.

Probably the healthiest category in a list of low carbohydrate foods would be vegetables. Besides being low on carbohydrates, vegetables are ample sources of vitamins. Vegetables such as celery, cucumber, lettuce, broccoli, onion and cabbages are ideal although carrots, manioc, potatoes and sweet potatoes contain a considerable amount of carbohydrates and therefore, should be avoided.

Fats also are an important part of one’s diet but should be taken in moderation. In a list of low carbohydrate foods, olive,canola, coconut and walnut oils and products including cream butter comprise the oils or fats category. Furthermore, fruits such as apples, oranges, grapes, raspberries and strawberries should take a significant portion of one’s diet although dried fruits and fruit juice are not normally recommended.

Choosing one’s diet from a a list of low carbohydrate foods would probably be the healthiest decision one would make. However, one should always remember to balance one’s diet, so as not to leave out the other necessary nutrients.
