The Wave Or The Ab Circle Pro Which Is Easier
I teach clients to exercise at home and so I like to be aware of what exercise equipment is available that I can recommend to my clients. I look at each piece of exercise equipment and assess price point, size and convenience and what particular focus on each machine has.
Home exercisers currently being advertised include the Firm Wave and the Ab Circle Pro which are in a similar price range between $100 and $150. The Firm Wave is a rocking platform that you stand, sit or lie on and the Ab Circle Pro consists of a track with kneepads and handlebars.
The Ab Circle Pro gives a cardiovascular workout as you swing your knees from side to side on the semicircular track and works your abdominals and obliques at the same time to give you toned, flat abs and a trim waistline as well as conditioning your lungs and heart.
The all fours position is not particularly comfortable, but has advantages in that you have to partially support your own body weight on your arms, which strengthens the bone density in your lower and upper arm and works the muscles in your arms, chest and shoulders isometrically.
You need to be careful to position your hips and spine correctly when you’re exercising on all fours; if you let your lower back sag like a hammock and your abdominals bulge then you will soon get a sore back. Keep your tummy muscles pulled in and your spine in neutral and you will find your abs are in the perfect position to be toned efficiently and correctly.
Conventional ab exercises are carried out lying on the floor; the problem here is that it is extremely difficult to work your abs correctly in this position without hurting your neck or your back, and you are more likely to make a bulging tummy look worse rather than better. If the Ab Circle Pro’s knee supports hurt your knees, try some kneepads.
The Ab Circle Pro comes with a useful healthy eating guide and a three-minute DVD. In this price range it represents good value for money and will be very helpful in burning fat and giving you flatter abs if you exercise on it regularly as part of a varied exercise routine.
The other piece of equipment that we are comparing is the Firm Wave, which costs around $120 and is shaped like a curved step, with one side stable for new exercisers and those who may be a little unsteady, and the other side that rocks for increased calorie burn and a good core workout. The Wave also comes with a selection of workout DVDs.
